The Lion’s Pride: Interviewing

Know Your Industry

Industry knowledge can be the difference between landing a job (or promotion) or not.

Demonstrating this knowledge in interviews can wow hiring managers, proving to them that you know your stuff.  When discussing your industry, be sure to focus on three major categories:

The major players.  Who leads the industry?  Who are the contenders?  The pretenders?  The up-and-comers? What are their strengths and weaknesses?

Perspective.  Where does the company you’re interviewing at rank in market share?  How does its gross income fare against the rest of the market?  What reputation does the company have in the industry?

Upcoming innovations. What are the next “gotta haves” coming out and who’s bringing them out?  Are there other innovations that could benefit the company you’re interviewing with?  Could they increase revenue or decrease overhead?

IN THE CARAVAN: Demonstrate your industry knowledge by concentrating on these three categories.
