Overbooking Your Way to a New Job

Some people have a deep, burning, unquenchable need to be busy all of the time.  You know the type: works more than 50 hours per week, attends all of the kids' games and recitals, a member of three clubs, runs at least two miles a day, gardens, and takes romantic vacations with the spouse.

Heck - you may even be that person.

Of course, if you are that person, then you consider sleep optional.  You've also met a lot of people - probably enough to help you land another good job.  With an overbooked schedule, it's almost impossible not to know a ton of people.

And that's a good thing.  The busier you are when job hunting, the better...with the following guidelines:

Get out of the house.  This is not only the first rule on the list, but it's also the most important.  Being extremely busy at home or in solitude won't help you meet more people.

Support a kid or three.   If you have kids attend their activities and chat up those around you during breaks, intermissions, between innings and halves, or even just a lull in the action.  Your kids will appreciate you being there, and you'll appreciate the additional networking opportunity.  Read more about this topic in this post.

Pay attention to your needs.  Doing everything and moving faster than light won't help if you're dead.  So get some sleep and eat well.  And, if you determine a particular activity isn't providing your daily dose of leads, then replace it with something else..

IN THE CARAVAN: Overbook your schedule and you'll increase your odds of job hunting success.  Just be sure to be busy outside the house, go to kids' events and pay attention to your own needs.
