But let's take a look
at the pro(s) and con(s) of going the non-profit route in your career:
|
Pro: You can contribute to the betterment of society
and help your fellow (hu)man.
Con: Your paycheck will likely be lower than someone
performing the same function in the for-profit sector.
Pro: You can gain valuable experience which can later
be parlayed into a higher-paying job in the for-profit sector.
Con: Many in the non-profit sector are marginally
better off than those they're trying to help.
Pro: Your skills are sorely needed in the non-profit
world.
Con: Many positions are reliant upon grants and
donations. If the grants aren't renewed or if they fall through, your
position may well be in jeopardy.
...You may have noticed a noticeable leaning away
from the non-profit sector. The reason? Nobody works for the
love of it. We all want to be paid what we're worth.
Given the writer of this
week's question didn't supply any background information, we're answering
on the basis of money. And if it's money
your after, then stick to the for-profit world.
IN THE CARAVAN: The for-profit sector usually pays more than the
non-profit.
